We Celebrated Earth Day with HMC Architects
We were honored to celebrate Earth Day with HMC Architects and Associates (HMC). The architect firm hosted an event to emphasize Red List Free products. AEP Span works on many different types of projects that request green building criteria, such as LEED and Living Building Challenge (LBC). Education, healthcare, and civic facilities are among these types of projects.
The International Living Future Institute’s LBC green building certification program is made up of 7 āPetalsā and 20 imperatives. All building products fall within the LBC Materials Petal and Imperative 10, which is the Red List. The Red List is comprised of 20 hazardous chemicals that have been designated as harmful to humans (all living beings) and the environment. Building products that meet LBC Red List Free criteria must report ingredients at 100% disclosure to 100ppm and do not contain any Red List chemicals.
Currently, the LBC does not require Declare labels to be third-party verified and reporting is based on the honor system. AEP Span’s products are made with ZINCALUMEĀ® Plus coated material, which meets the LBC Red List Free criteria and has also been issued a third-party verified Declare label.
AEP Span is committed to transparency and is your partner in achieving green building designs.
ZINCALUMEĀ® Plus is comprised of two coatings:
- ZINCALUME, also known as GalvalumeĀ®, is a premium metallic coating which consists of 55% aluminum and 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon by weight
- āPlusā is a clear resin coating which provides a beautiful finish
- Together, ZINCALUME Plus coated material offers a bare steel aesthetic design
- Offers key energy efficiency attributes for building envelopes
AEP Span is continually expanding its educational programs to other forward-thinking organizations like HMC.Ā Learn more about AEP Span’s Sustainability program or how you can learn and earn AIA credits through our educational programs.
Even though Earth Day only arrives once a year, we believe the principles should be practiced all year long.
